What are the stages of international patenting?
The main stages of international patenting are as follows:
1. Preliminary examination (expertise)
The name, logo or invention planned to be patented is checked in international databases (WIPO, Madrid system and other open sources). This stage is carried out to determine the presence of similar or identical patents.
2. For which countries it is planned to obtain a patent certificate
In which countries it is determined that patenting is necessary. In some cases, individual countries are selected directly, and in some cases, it is possible to cover several countries through the Madrid system.
3. Application submission
The application includes the applicant's information, description of the patent object, classes, date and necessary documents. The application is submitted through the national office or WIPO.
4. Formal and substantive examination
The competent authorities will review the documents. If necessary, additional questions or corrections will be asked.
5. Decision and issuance of certificate
After the successful completion of the process, the international patent certificate will be issued and legal protection will come into force.
